The Federation of the EUropean fire officers (FEU) held a seminar on "Climate change and wildfires in particular" at the 52nd FEU Council meeting in Madrid on 3 November 2022. It raised many important aspects and contained many good, forward-looking proposals on the subject. Following this seminar, the FEU is releasing a statement "Call for an integral and coordinated approach to wildfires" which you find herewith.

FEU in direct contact with the State Emergency Service Ukraine

Since the beginning of the war between Russia and Ukraine, the FEU has been intensively working to help the State Emergency Service Ukraine by actively matching supply and demand of firefighting equipment. The FEU has first line contact to Ukrainian fire officers and knows how to convey the needs directly to its network. This week there was an online meeting between the general Serhiy Kruk and his deputies from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and the FEU presidium.

European Fire Safety Award for the Erasmus+ funded ‘BFireSafe@School’ project

The Leitrim County Council fire service won the prestigious European Fire Safety Award for 2021 for the Erasmus+ funded ‘BFireSafeatSchool’ project at the 6th International Safety Education seminar (www.ises2021.eu) held in Croke Park Dublin recently.

Officer Development Program 2022, a successful pilot

Last week, 18 European fire officers started the Officer Development Programme (ODP). The goal of the programme is to gain a better understanding of the strategic issues that are important for the fire service in Europe, now and in the future. The participants worked on their individual leadership skills and worked together on strategic assignments.

Researcher Karin Dangermond/NL investigated this as part of her PhD research. The article with the results was published in HUMOR International Journal of Humour Research.
